Weekend Preview: Trojans and Irish

Mount Brydges, ON – The Bulldogs will continue their trek through January with two games this coming weekend. On Friday evening, the Dogs will find themselves in the coldest rink in the PJHL Yeck Division when they take on the Thamesford Trojans. A quick turnaround will see the Lucan Irish entering the cozy confines of the Tri-Township Arena on Saturday night.

Friday, January 17 at Thamesford (17-13-1-0-0-1, 6th)

Arena and Time: Thamesford Arena, 7:30PM
Last Meeting: Saturday, December 21 (5-4 OTL – Game Report)

The Opponent: While the first game of 2025 did not flatter the Trojans, a 3-1 loss to Aylmer, the green and yellow have rattled off two wins in a row (3-2 vs Port Stanley and 4-3 at Aylmer). This week, on Thursday evening, the Trojans will travel to Petrolia to clash with the Flyers and look continue their streak. The team will then entertain a relaxing weekend after Friday night in Mount Brydges. Cater Musselman continues to lead the Trojans in the points department. The over-ager from Stratford has racked up 16 goals and 21 assists (37 points) at the time of this post. The back end is led by rookie Max Vandertuin by way of 6 goals and 13 assists (19 points). The home team will be looking to emulate their success from December 21 which saw the Trojans steal an away game in the Tri-Palace. This clash marks the second-last meeting between these two sides this season.

Saturday, January 18 vs Lucan (8-23-1-0-3-0, 8th)

Arena and Time: Tri-Township Arena, 7:30PM
Last Meeting: Sunday, December 22 (2-1 L – Game Report)

The Opponent: The start of the year has been a competitive one for the Irish who are looking to find some late form as teams in the PJHL Yeck Division start to think about the post-season. Lucan is no exception. Despite not having a win during the 2025 portion of the schedule, the Irish have kept contests tight. A 6-5 overtime loss to the Petrolia Flyers and a slim 2-1 decision against the North Middlesex Stars show the progress this side has made. It is also worth noting that the Irish bested the Bulldogs twice in December by way of 7-6 and 2-1 decisions. No matter where these two clubs are in the standings, the games are always entertaining. This game marks the last clash of the 2024-2025 season between these two clubs.

The Bulldogs will entertain the Port Stanley Sailors on Friday, January 24 at 8:30PM from the Tri-Township Arena. This game is a rescheduled contest from a few weeks ago which saw proceedings grind to an early halt due to poor ice conditions.
