Weekend Recap: Bulldogs Down Hawks and Flyers

Mount Brydges, ON – As stated in our Weekend Preview, this past weekend of Bulldogs hockey promised to be a highly competitive one as the team clashed with the upper echelon of the PJHL Yeck Division in the Exeter Hawks (Friday) and Petrolia Flyers (Saturday).

Friday, January 10 at Exeter (4-3 SOW)

A solid crowd of 470 packed into the South Huron Recreation Centre to witness a Top 3 clash between the Bulldogs and Hawks on Friday evening from Exeter.

Just 1:22 into the initial frame, the home team got the fans roaring with celebrations via an Owen Shore unassisted goal. Kevin Waters (Logan Gianelli, Callum Statchuk) replied for the Bulldogs at 7:12. However, just twenty seconds later, Jimmy Schiedel edged the Hawks into the lead. Before the end of the period, at 18:26, Nathan Lavender (Kevin Waters, Nick Mazza) levelled the game at two apiece.

The middle stanza was a tightly contested tussle with just one goal coming via a Bulldogs power-play, at 11:37, through Nolan Griffiths. Ben Landers and Noah Cameron picked up the helpers on the goal.

In the final period of play, another Hawks standout in Jordan Alexander saved at least a point for his side at 12:46. At the end of sixty minutes, the Hawks had outshot the Bulldogs by a 38-30 tally.

Bulldogs goaltender Aiden Berry was superb to get his team to this stage in the game by making 35 saves. He would be equally as instrumental in overtime and the shootout.

Despite being outshot 6-1 in the overtime period, the Bulldogs and Hawks would end up settling their evening by way of the shootout.

Callum Statchuk scored the loan goal in the shootout which lasted a total of four rounds. With the goal, Statchuk cemented the fact that the Bulldogs would gain the extra point.
