Saturday, February 1 vs Thamesford (6-4 W)
The initial period between these two clubs went as one would expect. A tightly contested and offensively-charged first period had the fans drawn into the game with great interest.
Justin Zirul (Nathan Lavender, Alex Laszlo) earned his second goal of the season at 6:24 and got the scoring frenzy started. The Trojans countered late in the period, at 17:40, via Brett Busby (short-handed). Just over one minute later, the away side took the lead, at 18:43, through Carter Musselman (short-handed). However, with a mere thirteen seconds left on the clock, Kevin Waters (Logan Gianelli, Cal Crinklaw), ensured that the first period would end even a two goals apiece.
The Bulldogs started brightly in the middle frame and just fifteen seconds into the middle stanza, Noah Cameron (Nolan Griffiths, Ben Landers) punched the Bulldogs ahead by one. Not to be outdone, the Trojans hit back through William Joyce at 6:08. At the 11:29-mark of the period, Nolan Griffiths stepped up with a power-play goal with assists coming from Logan Forster and Jack Uniac. Matthew Pimentel scored for the away side at 15:50 and yet again, the teams entered the second intermission in a deadlock.
Fortunes turned to the home side in the final period as Tim Jozsa (Logan Gianelli, Nolan Griffiths) deposited his second goal in a Bulldogs uniform at 4:55. Nolan Burnside (Nolan Griffiths, Ben Landers) slid the puck into the empty net at 19:45 to dash any comeback hopes the Trojans may have had.
Logan Griffiths earned the victory between the pipes and turned aside 31 of 35 shots in the process.
Sunday, February 2 vs Exeter (7-0 W)
The Bulldogs started strong and never looked back in this contest as the home side downed the Exeter Hawks by a 7-spot on Sunday evening from the Tri-Township Arena.
Noah Cameron (Nolan Burnside, Ben Landers, 9:24) scored his second goal in as many nights to ensure the Bulldogs started the stronger in this contest. The score would stay at 1-0 until 19:25 of the initial period when Cal Crinklaw (Nathan Lavender, Tyler Boere) earned his second goal of the season. This was followed by a big moment for James Hipple (Noah Cameron), just twenty-five seconds later, as Hipple notched his first of the campaign and helped the home side to a healthy 3-0 lead after twenty minutes.
In a penalty-filled middle frame, the home side continued to find ways to score from different contributors. Noah Cameron continued his productive evening (and weekend) as he connected with Logan Gianelli and Nolan Griffiths at 1:59 to push the game to 4-0. Nolan Griffiths (Alex Laszlo, Ben Landers) added a power-player goal at 12:33 to continue the scoring frenzy for the home side. Moments later, on the power-play, Alex Laszlo (Logan Gianelli, Nolan Griffiths) added his ninth tally of the season. The teams exited the period with entirely different emotions as the Bulldogs were up by a 6-0 score.
Just one goal was scored in the final frame from Logan Forster at 3:45 into an empty-net as the Hawks opted to pull their goalie in the hopes of finding one past Logan Griffiths in the Bulldogs goal. However, it was Griffiths who found the scoresheet as he provided the lone assist on the Forster goal. In the process, Griffiths earned his first shutout of the season as the London-born Griffiths turned aside all 37 shots peppered his way.
There is still one more game left to play between these two clubs. Funnily enough, this last contest lands on Valentine’s Day.
