Weekend Recap: Bulldogs Win Three of Three

Mt. Brydges, ON – The Mount Brydges Bulldogs have done themselves a world of good after a successful six point weekend which sees the team surge up the standing and improve to 13-7-2-0-1-2. The team currently sits fourth in the PJHL Yeck Division. After all was said and done this past weekend, the Boys from the Brydges outscored their opponents by a total count of 14-5.

Thursday, December 5 at Petrolia (7-1 W)

As stated in our Weekend Preview, the tilt between the Petrolia Flyers and Bulldogs promised to be a tough contest as both teams were looking to correct their respective courses and get back to winning ways.

The home side’s power-play clicked at 10:56 of the initial stanza and it was Tobias Iantorno who propelled the Flyers to a 1-0 lead. Nathan Lavender (Callum Statchuk, Logan Forster) punched back for the visitors at 18:47 to ensure both teams were level at the first intermission.

The middle frame belonged to the Bulldogs as Nolan Griffiths (Logan Gianelli, Nathan Lavender) potted his fifth of the season just 25 seconds into proceedings. Jack Uniac (Tage Gallant, Logan Forster) notched his second goal via the power-play at 12:46. Logan Forster (Callum Statchuk) continued his very productive evening by earning his eighth of the campaign at 15:58.

Despite being outshot in the final period, the Bulldogs managed to claw three more goals past Elijah Grant in the Petrolia goal. Callum Statchuk and Logan Forster combined again at 3:01. Noah Candy (Cal Crinklaw, Callum Statchuk) chipped in with his fourth contribution of the season 34 seconds later. After a spirited tussle between Cal Crinklaw and Miller Mailloux, Nolan Griffiths (Alex Laszlo, Jaxon Moorhouse) capitalized on the power-play opportunity to complete the scoring frenzy on display by the away side.

Aiden Berry turned aside 36 of 37 on the night to record his seventh win of the season. Berry’s efforts would be rewarded two nights later as he would tend the crease against the North Middlesex Stars.

Saturday, December 7 at North Middlesex (6-4 W)

The Battle of Highway 81 entered its fourth installment on Saturday evening from the North Middlesex and District Arena. At the end of sixty minutes, the Bulldogs had levelled the season series at 2-2.

The Bulldogs, looking to continue their momentum from Thursday evening, started the stronger in Game 4 as Nathan Lavender (Alex Laszlo, Nolan Griffiths) got the festivities started at 4:23 of the first period. A mere 21 seconds later, the visitors doubled their lead through Ben Landers who notched his thirteenth tally of the season. Incredibly, just 14 seconds later at 4:48, Tage Gallant (Nolan Burnside) collected his second goal of the season to push the Bulldogs to an extremely quick 3-0 lead. The home side would hit back through Caleb Musselman at 9:47. Alex Laszlo (Logan Gianelli, Nolan Burnside) would then capitalize on a Musselman penalty to ensure the power-play kept ticking along for the Bulldogs at 17:50.

During the early stages of the second period, the Stars would mount two quick strikes of their own. Griffen Cann found the back of the net just 28 seconds into the middle frame. Nick Bannister, who leads the Stars in points (45), clawed another goal back for the home side 26 seconds later. Not to be outdone, newcomer Nolan Burnside (Tage Gallant, Jack Uniac) notched his first goal for the Bulldogs at 2:48. In his debut for the Bulldogs, Burnside chipped in with one goal and two helpers.

Jake Van Arenthals started the scoring in the third period at 7:41. In exchange, Deacon Kroesbergen (Tage Gallant) earned his fifth of the season at 14:37 and would put the game just out of reach as the Bulldogs collected yet another valuable two points on the road.

Berry Aiden turned aside 28 of 32 to collect his eighth win of the season.

Sunday, December 8 vs Aylmer (1-0 W)

On Sunday evening a well rested Aylmer Spitfires entered the Tri-Township Arena looking to continue their positive momentum as the Spits had earned a big two points last weekend against the North Middlesex Stars by way of a 7-6 goal fest.

However, despite greatly outshooting the Bulldogs by a 45-27 count, the Spitfires could not solve a well rested Colin Ideson who turned aside all 45 shots peppered his way. In the effort, Ideson earned his first shutout of the season.

The lone goal of the game came in the first period from Nathan VanHooydonk (Nolan Griffiths, Kevin Waters) at 4:23.
