Mount Brydges, ON – The team went two for three this past weekend and improved their overall record to 10-7-2-0-1. The Bulldogs currently sit 6th overall in the Yeck Division.
Friday, November 29 at Thamesford (3-2 SOW)
This past Friday, the team traveled to Thamesford for what promised to be a highly competitive contest in close quarters at the Thamesford District Recreation Centre.
The home side started the scoring at 8:20 of the first frame through Carter Musselman.
At 6:05 of the middle stanza, Logan Gianelli (Ben Landers, Nathan Lavender, PP) earned his tenth goal of the campaign to level the score. Ewan Meiklejohn (7:26) ensured that the Trojans went into the second intermission up by one.
It was Ben Landers, with less than thirty seconds left on the clock (19:34), who tied the game and sent the contest into overtime. Alex Laszlo and Logan Gianelli chipped in with the primary and secondary assists respectively.
The overtime frame solved nothing and the fixture entered a shootout. In the ninth round, Callum Satchuck would win the game for the Bulldogs.
Aiden Berry made 33 saves on 35 shots peppered his way to earn his fifth win of the season.
Saturday, November 30 vs Aylmer (5-0 W)
The following night, the Bulldogs and Aylmer Spitfires took to the ice from the Tri-Township Arena.
It was the home side who started the stronger and peppered 22 shots at Logan Griffiths in the Aylmer goal. Noah Cameron (Tyler Boere, Kevin Waters) scored his first goal of the season at 9:55 of the first period. The home team would continue to put the pressure on the Spits and were rewarded with two more tallies before the initial period was over via Nolan Griffiths (Noah Cameron, Nathan Lavender, 11:20) and Tage Gallant (Thomas Guidolin, Nolan Griffiths, 19:51, PP). For Gallant, it was first goal of the season and as a Bulldog.
Continuing his scoring touch from the previous night, Ben Landers (Nolan Griffiths, Logan Gianelli, 1:01, PP) notched his eleventh goal of the season via the power-play. Out of the five goals scored by the Bulldogs on the night, three came via the power-play.
In the final period, at 7:32, Alex Laszlo (Ben Landers, Nolan Griffiths, PP) added another power-play marker.
Aiden Berry made 31 saves to record his sixth victory and first shutout of the season.
Sunday, December 1 vs Lucan (7-6 L)
For the third occasion in as many nights, the Bulldogs took the ice. This time, a determined Lucan Irish showed up for a thirteen goal thriller from the Tri-Township Arena.
Friday’s shootout hero, Callum Statchuk (Logan Forster, Thomas Guidolin, 3:31) would got the scoring frenzy underway. Lucan would counter through Owen Lukings (8:19) and Logan Battersby (8:30) to quickly take their first lead of the contest. Not to be outdone, Nathan VanHooydonk (Tyler Taplay, Noah Candy, 8:46) would equalize. The game would then cool off for exactly ten minutes and ten seconds before Tyler Taplay (Noah Candy, 18:56) added his second goal of the campaign which gave the home side the lead after one.
The middle frame belonged to the Irish as Matthew Rutledge (1:02) and Cayden Muscutt (6:46) ensured the visitors went into the second intermission up by a tally.
The final period produced six goals in total. Three power-play markers. Two short-handed tallies. One even-strength goal.
Ben Landers (Noah Cameron, Nolan Griffiths, PP, 2:09) would tie proceedings. Joshua Sandy (5:22, PP) and Brayden Richard (8:11) would make sure that the Irish were one step ahead of the home side as both teams turned the corner into the closing ten minutes of play. Noah Cameron (Tage Gallant, Nathan Solomon, 11:12, SH) punched back for the Bulldogs. Owen Lukings added to his productive evening, short-handed, at 13:22. Finally, it was Nathan Lavender (Ben Landers, Nolan Griffiths, 18:41, PP) who pulled the home side to within one, but it was just shy of what was required to tie the game.
Colin Ideson stopped 26 of 33.
