Weekend Review: Games Gaining Playoff Energy

Mount Brydges, ON – The Bulldogs managed to earn two of a possible four points this past weekend on the road. Both contests offered playoff-type encounters which had fans at the edge of their seats. On Thursday evening, the Dogs were bested by the Petrolia Flyers (5-3) before earning a 2-1 victory, with two seconds remaining on the clock, in Thamesford.

Thursday, January 8 at Petrolia Flyers (Attendance: 317)

The Dogs started brightly in the initial frame via goals from Luke Boere and JJ Fogarty. Petrolia would counter with four unanswered goals which were spread between the first, second, and third periods. JJ Fogarty would hit back for the away side to bring the game to within one goal. However, it was the Flyers who added an empty-net goal to earn the win. Logan Griffiths made 31 saves in the loss. The Dogs have yet to win in Petrolia this season.

Friday, January 9 at Thamesford Trojans (Attendance: 143)

Another extremely tight and toughly contested game awaited the Dogs just 24-hours later in Thamesford. JJ Fogarty’s first period goal looked to be enough until the final minute of the game. With 38-seconds remaining, the Trojans tied the game via 6-on-4 man-advantage. Shockingly, with 2 seconds left in the third period, the Dogs were awarded a penalty shot. JJ Fogarty came through in the clutch and tucked away the penalty shot opportunity. Logan Griffiths stood tall in goal for the Dogs by way of 41 saves to earn his eleventh win of the season.
